Interview with Marnie: Becoming Mothers Counseling
Upma Sharma Photography is proud to introduce Marnie, a dedicated Mental Health Therapist who brings her expertise and compassion to our community. Marnie has guided numerous moms through the wonderful but difficult path of childbirth by acting as a beacon of support. We had a conversation with her over coffee to find out more about her work, her life experiences, and her priceless parenting advice.
Could you briefly introduce yourself and the path you took to become a perinatal therapist?
Marnie: Unquestionably! I started my journey towards mental health more than ten years ago. I began my career in community settings as a counselor. After facing the identity shifts that came with becoming a mother, I came to the conclusion that helping mothers was my main area of passion. Being a mother is such a life-changing experience; it's not all happiness and stress and self-doubt. I pursued further studies in counseling with a focus on maternal mental health and have been working as a perinatal therapist ever since.
What motivated you to concentrate on the mental health of mothers?
Marnie: During my early profession, I worked with a lot of mothers, and their experiences served as my inspiration. I observed a weakness in the mother's support network, particularly with relation to mental health. Postpartum depression, anxiety, and the immense changes that accompany a new baby are common struggles for women. I wanted to give them a secure environment where they could communicate their emotions and get the help they require. Witnessing mothers find balance and confidence in their new jobs is immensely fulfilling.
What typical obstacles do recently became moms have to deal with, and how can they get past them?
Marnie: Issues like identity changes, lack of sleep, and juggling their new duties are common problems for new moms. Creating a network of friends, family, or support groups is essential for overcoming problems. Self-care is also essential; making time for oneself helps support and preserve mental well-being. It's critical to seek expert assistance when necessary since maternal mental health should never be disregarded.
Could you tell us about a memorable moment you had while dealing with mothers?
Marnie: It gives me great satisfaction to see the mothers in my support groups helping each other out. The experience of becoming a mother is lessened when women unite and discover a sense of power and camaraderie. Seeing the transformation that comes from building community and knowing that I play a part in the journey is quite special.
What guidance would you provide moms getting ready for a newborn portrait?
Marnie: First and foremost, unwind and keep in mind that you only require one excellent picture. The goal of these portraits is to capture your family's happiness and affection. Making sure the infant is well-fed and rested prior to the session is practical advise. Wearing something stylish but comfy might give moms more self-confidence. The most stunning pictures are frequently the result of unplanned, natural events, so don't worry about perfection.
How may moms contact you to receive counseling services?
Marnie: Mothers can reach out to me through www.becomingmotherscounseling.com or https://www.instagram.com/becomingmotherscounseling/. I provide counseling sessions in person as well as virtually. Making help available and individualized for each mother's needs is my aim. I'm here to listen and support you as you navigate the amazing journey that is parenthood.
